A division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, IrishAid is the Irish Governments aid programme. Funding supports the work of Irish, national and international NGOs, multilateral institutions such as the UN and World Bank and humanitarian aid programmes.
ANALYSIS
Challenges and room for improvement
- Ireland publishes to the IATI Registry at a frequency of less than quarterly.
- Total budget is the only organisation-level indicator that is published to IATI but it is only one year forward-looking. However, much of this information is published in other formats.
- Fourteen activity-level indicators are not published to the IATI Registry. None of the information not published to the IATI Registry is made available in a machine-readable format. A further eight indicators including MoUs, budget documents, contracts and commitments are not published at all.
RECOMMENDATIONS
- Ireland should aim to publish to the IATI Registry at least quarterly.
- Ireland should improve the comprehensiveness and coverage of its IATI publication at both the organisation and activity levels.
- Ireland should develop an open aid portal that publishes detailed disaggregated data, available for free bulk export under an open licence to promote use of its data by all relevant stakeholders.
