From counting to accountability: unleashing the power of data to leave no one behind

This event is being organised by Save the Children and Publish What You Fund.

It is widely acknowledged that quality, accessible data will play a crucial role in realising the Pledge to Leave No One Behind – both to inform policy making, and for monitoring and accountability in the interests of those groups furthest behind.

There are many exciting initiatives to close data gaps, including those related to development financing, programming and outcomes for the poorest and most marginalized groups. However, it is not yet clear that this data and evidence is being used effectively for policy making and accountability.

The speakers at the event will share examples of where data and evidence is being used to promote better policy and accountability to implement the leave no one behind pledge. They will also identify barriers to the wider use of that data, and identify steps that should be taken by different stakeholders to overcome them.  We’ll be drawing on case studies from Benin, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Jordan to explore the challenges and opportunities ahead.
