Development Initiatives today launched the Global Humanitarian Assistance (GHA) report, providing an up-to-date and comprehensive picture of global humanitarian financing.

Humanitarian crises are messy and complicated – and so is the reporting. Produced annually since 2000, the GHA report answers some basic questions around humanitarian funding: Where does the money come from? Where does it go? How does it get there? 

The report also highlights the need for better quality aid data in fragile and conflict-affected countries, stating:

“It remains impossible to trace transactions all the way through the system to know how much these NGOs – or any other implementing partners – actually received indirectly via international agencies. If all actors reported their financial flows in a standardised format, such as to the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) standard, project-level data could be geocoded and resources could be traced all the way from the donor to the recipient.”
