A group of influential Americans are joining the call for aid transparency in the U.S., as part of a new advisory committee on the government’s implementation of global initiatives.

The committee will provide strategic advice to Publish What You Fund, the campaign for aid transparency, on its efforts to advocate for the U.S. government to deliver its aid transparency commitments.

Chaired by George Ingram, who also serves as Chair Emeritus of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and Co-Chair of the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network, members include:

• Nilmini Rubin, Director, Government Relations, Information Technology Industry Council
• Noam Unger, Policy Director, Foreign Assistance Reform Project and Fellow at Brookings
• Larry Nowles, Independent Consultant
• Paul O’Brien, Vice President for Policy and Campaigns, Oxfam America
• Rodney Bent, Director, United Nations Information Centre
• Jeremy Weinstein, Associate Professor, Stanford University

Members met for the first time last week to discuss priorities for the months ahead, including government agencies’ progress on publishing their assistance data to the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) standard.

Discussions on how to implement the IATI Standard are taking place within and across a number of U.S. agencies involved in foreign assistance, as well as with the White House and Office of Management and Budget (OMB), making this a crucial time for Publish What You Fund and the advisory committee.
