OGP: Canada moves to strengthen aid transparency commitment
At the first international Open Government Partnership (OGP) meeting yesterday, Canada presented their Action Plan, which acknowledges the way in which the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) will make information about their aid spending easier to find, use, and compare.
Canada’s Action Plan outlines Year 1 plans to review all IATI requirements and publish a plan to make information about the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) activities available and accessible. In Years 2 and 3, the government will focus on implementation and reporting.
However, the Canadian Open Government Coalition, Government Ethics Coalition and Money in Politics Coalition, made up of more than 70 citizen groups in total with three million members (all coordinated by Democracy Watch), called on the OGP to reject the action plan for failing to fulfil its own commitment to increase government integrity.
