Norway launches new online aid transparency initiative
The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) has shown a commitment to aid transparency by launching a new tool on its website which allows users to view information on aid flows.
The site shows statistics on Norwegian aid by country, sector, managing partner and time period. It organises this into visualisations, making it easy for users to view aid distribution around the world, see what proportion is spent on different types of aid, and see who is distributing the aid. It then allows users to view changes over time, with data from 1960 until the end of 2010. There is also the option to download more specific data using a range of different categories.
Whilst the site is only available in Norwegian at present, this is an encouraging move that highlights how useful it can be when aid information becomes accessible; in a simple and easy-to-use format.
