The Global Fund continues plans for transparency
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has replied to a news report that claims the fund’s board is considering proposals to scale back its policy of full transparency.
In a statement on May 10, the Global Fund stated that: “Contrary to assertions referred to in an Associated Press article, the Global Fund board will not discuss any proposal of scaling back the investigations or revealing less about them to donors and the public. These issues are not – and never have been – on the Board’s agenda.”
An Associated Press report earlier this year suggested instances of misspent funds and corruption. There have been concerns that a scaling back on transparency commitments from the Global Fund would seriously damage the movement for greater aid transparency.
