UN Food and Agriculture Organization opens up data
As of today, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations is granting free and open access to its database, FAOSTAT , which is the world’s largest repository of data on food, agriculture, and hunger.
Prior to this announcement, access to large batches of statistics required paid annual subscription. Hafez Ghanem, FAO Assistant Director General for Economic Social Development says, ’We are now providing totally free access to this immense pool of data. This information is an important tool in the fight to alleviate poverty, promote sustainable development, and eliminate hunger.’
