UN Millennium Development Goals 2009 Report: building stronger statistical systems
The UN Millennium Development Goals 2009 Report has recognised the need to improve the availability of data and the building of a stronger statistical system. The report noted that “reliable, timely and internationally comparable data on the [Millennium Development Goals’] indicators are crucial to holding the international community accountable”.
The report further noted that the move towards an improvement in the quality and transparency of data has allowed “international agencies to have a better understanding of the data available at the country-level”. However, there is still an “urgent need to build statistical capacity in countries where resources are limited” as this will work to ensure that data is timely, accurate and accessible.
