Congratulations to Madagascar who have become the 22nd partner country to endorse the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI). It means that Madagascar are the 10th African country to endorse IATI, which highlights the growing African consensus on the need for greater aid transparency.

By endorsing IATI as a partner country, they have approved the IATI Accra Statement, supporting the commitment made in the Accra Agenda for Action that asks donors to provide regular, detailed and timely information on their aid.

A statement on the IATI website said:

“On endorsing IATI, the Madagascan government said they are interested in joining a platform where people can exchange experiences on managing aid. Furthermore, they are happy to adhere to the objectives of IATI and hope to make use of the tools and frameworks which will let them improve the efficiency of aid to Madagascar. They look forward to using the initiative to reinforce the measures which the government undertook in 2008.

We welcome Madagascar to the initiative and look forward to working with them in the future to make information about aid spending easier to find, use and compare.” (IATI Website)

This is very welcome news and we hope that countries will continue to endorse IATI in the lead up to the key HLF4 meeting in Korea later this year.
